Meet Lorne
Lorne DeLarge is a lifelong Saanich resident, a husband, father, community volunteer and senior executive with more than three decades of leadership experience in business and government. He is running for Saanich Council because he believes our municipality deserves experienced, accountable and practical leadership.
Born and raised in Saanich, Lorne chose to build his home and raise his family here. He and his wife are the proud parents of two adult children. His lifelong connection to Saanich has given him a deep appreciation for the character of its neighbourhoods and a strong desire to ensure that future generations inherit a community that is affordable, vibrant and financially well managed.
Running with the Save Our Saanich team, Lorne is stepping up to bring fresh leadership, fiscal responsibility, and a disciplined approach back to municipal hall.
He believes that good governance begins with listening, collaboration, and genuine public engagement. Lorne is ready to advocate for Saanich residents, ensuring their voices are respected and heard on critical decisions regarding development, infrastructure, and the protection of the community's beautiful green spaces.
Today, Lorne is an active local entrepreneur, co-founding and operating Island Estate Transitions, a small business in Victoria that provides compassionate estate clearing and downsizing services to families navigating major life transitions.
Lorne’s dedication to public service is reflected in his extensive volunteer history with community organizations.
He has served as the Board President of the Royal McPherson Theatre Society, Past President of the Union Club of British Columbia, and has spent years working collaboratively to protect the region’s cultural and historical landmarks.
Lorne brings a combination of education, executive leadership and hands-on government experience that is unusual among municipal candidates. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation.
His professional career has included senior leadership roles in both the BC Government and the private sector, giving him a unique understanding of government from both sides of the table.
As a BC Government Executive Director, Lorne was responsible for provincial leased real estate, space planning and design, furniture and parking. He subsequently became General Manager of the contracted organization responsible for delivering many services to government. In that role, he oversaw virtually every aspect of a large and complex operation, including construction project management, operations and maintenance, environmental programs, information technology, budgeting, contract management and human resources.
Lorne led approximately 300 employees and managed a $600 million portfolio, adding to the experience necessary to make difficult financial decisions, manage competing priorities, manage taxpayers money effectively and ensure that public resources are used effectively.
That experience is particularly relevant to Saanich today. Municipal government is not simply about setting policy—it is about managing taxpayers’ money, evaluating projects, controlling costs, overseeing contracts, planning infrastructure and making sure decisions deliver value for residents. Lorne believes his decades of experience will bring a much-needed practical perspective to Council.
