Meet Lorne

Practical Leadership. Fiscal Responsibility.

A Stronger Saanich.

I am a long-time Saanich resident, husband, son, father of two adult children, and community leader who cares deeply about the future of our municipality.

I am running for Saanich Council because I believe Saanich needs new leadership that respects voters, homeowners, neighbourhoods, and the environment. Residents deserve a council that listens, makes balanced decisions, manages growth responsibly, protects the character of our communities, and ensures taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and transparently.

Throughout my career, I have led large organizations, managed complex budgets, improved public services, and delivered measurable results. I am seeking a seat on Council to bring that experience, accountability, and common-sense decision-making to local government.

Why I'm Running

Saanich is one of the most desirable places in Canada to live, raise a family, and build a future. Yet many residents feel their voices are no longer being heard.

Our municipality faces important challenges: housing affordability, infrastructure renewal, transportation planning, environmental stewardship, public safety, and the rising cost of government. Addressing these issues requires thoughtful leadership that balances competing priorities while respecting the people who call Saanich home.

I believe growth must be planned responsibly, neighbourhoods must be respected, environmental protections must be strengthened, and municipal finances must be managed with discipline and transparency.

My commitment is simple: listen carefully, make informed decisions, and always put the interests of Saanich residents first.

Rooted in Saanich

Saanich has been my home for most of my life. I attended Lansdowne Junior High School and Mount Douglas Secondary School before earning my degree from the University of Victoria.

My roots in Saanich run deep. I continue to live here, as do my father, my two adult children, and many members of my extended family. Like many residents, I have seen Saanich grow and change over the years while remaining one of the most desirable communities in Canada.

I value the qualities that make Saanich special: its established neighbourhoods, parks and green spaces, strong local businesses, excellent schools, and the sense of community that makes Saanich such a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Leadership That Delivers Results

For more than 25 years, I have held senior leadership positions across the public, private, and non-profit sectors, managing large teams, complex budgets, real estate portfolios, and major organizational initiatives.

More recently, my family and I launched a small local business operating in Saanich and serving families across Greater Victoria. Building and operating a family business has reinforced the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs, managing costs responsibly, and delivering excellent service to clients.

Prior to that, I served as General Manager for CBRE Victoria, leading a team of approximately 300 employees delivering real estate, facilities management, environmental, and construction services to the Province of British Columbia. During my tenure, employee engagement, client satisfaction, and operational performance all improved significantly.

Prior to joining CBRE, I spent more than a decade in executive leadership roles with the Government of British Columbia, including serving as Executive Director of the Accommodation Management Branch within the Real Property Division. I was responsible for a provincial real estate portfolio and annual budgets exceeding $215 million, leading initiatives that generated more than $45 million in savings, improved operational efficiency, and reduced environmental impacts.

Throughout my career, I have focused on strengthening accountability, improving performance, managing public resources responsibly, and delivering practical results—experience I will bring to Saanich Council.

Community Service and Volunteer Leadership

Giving back to the community has always been important to me.

I have served in leadership roles with several respected organizations, including:

Royal & McPherson Theatres Society: As President and Vice-President, I helped lead the development of a strategic plan focused on long-term financial sustainability while expanding access to arts and entertainment throughout the Capital Region.

Union Club of British Columbia: As President and Vice-President, I led initiatives that improved financial performance, increased member engagement, and oversaw a major heritage building restoration project exceeding $2 million.

These volunteer experiences reinforced the importance of collaboration, good governance, and financial responsibility.

Education and Professional Qualifications

I believe effective local government requires informed decision-making supported by education, experience, and sound judgment.

My qualifications include:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Royal Roads University

  • Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science, University of Victoria

  • Associate of Arts in Public Administration, Camosun College

  • Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), Canadian Securities Institute

I have also been honoured to receive several awards recognizing innovation, leadership, and public service excellence, including the Premier's Award for Innovation and Organizational Excellence and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada Silver Award for Innovative Management.

Looking Ahead for Saanich

Saanich has tremendous opportunities ahead, but success will require leadership that listens, plans responsibly, and focuses on practical solutions. I am committed to bringing experience, integrity, fiscal responsibility, and respectful leadership to Council. Together, we can preserve what makes Saanich special while ensuring it remains a vibrant, sustainable, and affordable community for generations to come. I would be honoured to earn your support.
